Valuable Information for Travelers

Since we sell lovely pieces of jewelry, it would be good to cover securing these items while traveling. Consider the purchase of one of our Wolf Designs travel pieces for protecting and storing your fine jewelry. Most of these can be stowed in your carry on so you won't have to leave them for a minute on your flight. There are also many great travel accessories for carrying extra valuable pieces securely on your person. Once you arrive at your destination, there should be a way of securing your valuables either at the front desk in a safe deposit box or in a safe in your room. You may want to check this out prior to your arrival.

For the sake of your good health, you may want to refrain from using airline pillows and blankets. They are used continuously without being laundered. Research shows that they are chock full of tiny organisms and may even contain e-coli bacteria. Be sure to take a change of clothing, toiletries and some good snack foods along in your carry on. You may experience flight delays, late night flights and closures that so delay meals that having a snack along will be a life saver. Also, if your bags get lost along the way with a few essentials in your carry on, you will be able to get by for a little while and hopefully by then, your bags will make it to you.

"The better prepared, the better the trip!" What a great quote to get you thinking before planning your next trip. When you first arrive at your accommodations, take a look around and familiarize yourself with the escape routes. This could be a real life-saver in an emergency. The hotel amenities should include things to make you feel safe and secure. You have the right to know these things and should be asking the following questions when making your reservations:

1. Do all rooms have fire alarms and sprinkler systems?
2. Can the fire department equipment reach the top floors?
3. Are there emergency contingency plans posted in each room?
4. Do you have emergency intercom systems?
5. Are security guards on duty? When and where?
6. Do you verify ID at check-in and have after-hours admittance security?
7. Is access to the rooms limited to guests-only at night?
8. Are there dead bolt locks on all room doors?
9. Are phones available in the bathrooms?
10. Are parking areas guarded, lighted and surveyed?

Basic Items For Your Personal Travelers Safety Kit:

• Battery powered flashlight
• Battery powered radio
• Whistle
• First aid kit
• Dust mask and/or fire-escape hood
• Cell phone
• Glow stick
• Bottled water
• Energy bars

Airline pilots have stated that what you wear during a flight is most important. Since fire is the greatest danger in any air mishap, wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt made of fabrics that don't melt to protect your arms and legs. Cover feet with socks and wear low closed heel and closed toed shoes. Wear loose comfortable clothes with elastic waists, bring a sweater or jacket just in case and for the ladies, support hose will help reduce leg swelling.
